REGIONAL PROGRAM FOR STRATEGIC AND POLICY STUDIES

About the seminar

The seminar will review the origins, goals and determinants of the future prospects of President Xi Jinping’s flagship initiative to build a “Community of Shared Destiny for Humanity” – a new kind of global community that would complement Xi Jinping’s “Chinese Dream” of fostering “the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation”. Through the discourse of “Community with Shared Destiny”, Beijing has actively mobilized broad international support for global governance norms and institutions which compete with and could potentially replace the current liberal rules-based order.China’s vision of global governance is taking shape through three key vehicles, namely the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), the Global Development Initiative (GDI) and the recently launched Global Security Initiative (GSI) The seminar will also unveil the roles of Southeast Asia in these Chinese initiatives. and Beijing’s prioritization of the region as a cornerstone in building a new global community centered on China.
